Picture this: having access to an editable goal planner template that you can tweak every week, month, or even each year to perfectly align with your ambitions. Sounds like the best planner for goals, right? Well, with the power of Canva templates, crafting the ultimate goal planner is easier than ever before.
In this blog post, we’ll dive into the exciting world of goal planning and show you how to harness the versatility of Canva templates to create a planner that’s as dynamic as your aspirations.
How to create the ultimate goal planner using Canva templates
To create a goal planner with Canva, keep the following in mind:
- Your goal planner should include the sheets specially tailored to your needs, as each and every person’s goals are different.
- There are literally hundreds of different sheets that can be included in a goal planner, or any planner for that matter. So it’s really important to include the sheets you’re actually going to use to avoid becoming overwhelmed.
- It’s much better to opt for a goal planner where you can change things to suit your needs – like my editable goal planner templates (use these with the free version of Canva, no download required).
- A nifty addition to any goal planner is having some productivity sheets as well so that you can actively work towards achieving your goals!
Also keep in mind that it can be challenging to source and print out your goal planner sheets, as not all planners that are available out there will include everything you need (and not all of them are editable!).
That’s why the one I’ve crafted offers a great option if you’re keen on building your own planner. With its customizable features, you can tailor it precisely to your preferences, ensuring it’s perfectly attuned to your journey towards achieving your goals.

What to include in your goal planner
When it comes to crafting your ultimate goal planner, less can definitely be more. While it may be tempting to pack every inch of your planner with elaborate charts and exhaustive lists, remember that the key is to create a tool that serves you efficiently without overwhelming you.
Overall, there are a few key features2 and sections to add to your goal planner to make it as effective as possible.
1. Goal Setting Section
Begin with a clear space to articulate your goals. Whether it’s a section for long-term aspirations, short-term objectives, or both, having a dedicated area to outline what you want to achieve is essential.
2. Actionable Steps
Next, include a section where you can break down each goal into manageable tasks. This could be a to-do list format or a step-by-step breakdown, allowing you to track your progress and celebrate small victories along the way.
3. Progress Tracker
Incorporate a method for monitoring your progress towards each goal. This could be a visual tracker, such as a progress bar or milestone markers, or a numerical representation of how far you’ve come.
4. Reflection Space
Allocate room for reflection on both your achievements and any setbacks. This could be in the form of prompts for journaling or simply blank space for freeform thoughts and observations.
5. Prioritization
Integrate a system for prioritizing your goals and tasks. Whether it’s a rating scale, color-coding, or a simple numbering system, identifying what’s most important can help you focus your efforts effectively.
6. Flexibility
Ensure your planner allows for flexibility and adaptation. Life is unpredictable, and goals may shift over time. Having the ability to adjust your planner accordingly ensures it remains a valuable tool rather than a source of frustration.
Individual pages to include in your goal planner
Even if you don’t use templates to create your planner (you can grab my goal planner templates here if you need them), these pages are essential to your goal planner and will make things so much easier.
Use the following list as a guideline of what to include in your planner.
If you want to save time and effort in designing your own pages and trying to figure out what to add to your planner, you can check out my goal planner templates.
2. Weekly worksheets
Weekly planner pages are great because there is no rule to follow – you can totally customize or design them to suit your needs and to achieve goals your way.
You can even have more than one weekly worksheet if you want. For instance, the weekly worksheets that come with the goal planner templates include a basic weekly goal planner, a page for weekly priorities, and one for weekly productivity.
3. Monthly worksheets
The same goes for monthly worksheets and how you can have more than one type included in your goal planner.
My templates, for instance, include a monthly goal planner, a monthly reflection sheet, and a 3-month review sheet – the last one is perfect for reviewing old goals and setting new ones.
Tip: I have added multiple monthly sheets to my personal goal planner instead of multiple weekly planners, simply because I don’t get around to doing a weekly spread or weekly reflections as I am too busy. You need to include in your planner what works best for you, and your time…
4. Sheets for reflecting and reviewing
As I just mentioned, there are multiple reflection and review sheets included in the goal planner templates.
Why do we need to review and reflect on our goals?
Regularly reviewing your goals is important because it helps you stay focused and motivated, provides an opportunity to track your progress, and allows for adjustments based on changing circumstances or priorities.
Regularly reflecting on your goals is equally as important because it allows you to gain insights into your progress, identify areas for improvement, and reaffirm your commitment to your aspirations.
Reflecting on your goals also helps you to improve your strategies, celebrate successes, learn from setbacks, and stay focused on achieving meaningful progress.
6. Goal Trackers
Adding a habit tracker to your planner is a useful tool to have on hand when you want to track your goals and get an idea of your overall commitment toward them. You can find the perfect habit tracker sheet in the goal planner templates for Canva.

7. Resolution worksheets
While both goals and resolutions can be valuable tools for self-improvement and achievement, resolutions are general commitments to help you grow personally or change your behavior over time (as opposed to goals which are specific, measurable objectives set within a defined timeframe).
So you can benefit greatly by adding some resolution sheets to your goal planner.
8. Sheets for long term goals
Long-term goals provide direction, purpose, and motivation and usually span over a few months to a few years. They form the cornerstone of your vision for the future, or what you want to achieve.
Long-term goals are big plans that need ongoing effort and commitment to achieve, unlike short-term goals that focus on immediate results
When setting long-term goals, it’s essential to consider various aspects of your life, including career, education, relationships, health, and personal development, to name a few.
While long-term goals may seem ambitious or daunting at first, breaking them down into smaller, manageable milestones can make them more attainable. Celebrating your progress along the way and adjusting your strategies as needed can help you stay motivated and focused on your long-term vision.
9. Productivity worksheets
Goals and productivity go hand in hand so no goal planner is complete without sheets to track your productivity.
Besides a weekly productivity planner, I love to include a Pomodoro worksheet so that I can get things done. The Pomodoro technique isn’t for everyone, but you should definitely try it out to see if it works for you!
The Pomodoro Technique is a simple yet effective time management method designed to enhance productivity. It involves breaking your work into focused intervals, typically 25 minutes each, separated by short breaks. After completing four intervals, you take a longer break. This technique helps combat procrastination and maintains focus by encouraging short bursts of concentrated work followed by brief periods of rest. By incorporating regular breaks, the Pomodoro Technique can boost productivity, reduce mental fatigue, and improve overall efficiency in tasks and projects.
10. Calendars
No planner is complete without a calendar!
Including calendars in your goal planner is essential so that you can track your timeline and progress. It’s great for seeing when projects are due and to reflect on goals and action steps taken towards resolutions.
11. Additional sheets
Now, since your creating your own goal planner, you can really add any additional sheets to your planner that you find necessary and useful, and to suit your needs.
One of my favorites is the project planner sheet since most of my short-term goals include smaller projects and tasks.
